Which banks in the EU are crypto friendly?

14 banks in the EU carry a CBL Score. Wirex (14 of 16), Revolut (13 of 16), Bunq (12 of 16) lead the list. 10 of the 14 open to ordinary retail customers; the rest take businesses, institutions or qualified investors.

How the EU regulates this

MiCA, the EU's crypto-asset regulation, has applied to service providers since 30 December 2024. National transition periods ended on 1 July 2026, so a bank or app offering crypto in the EU now needs its own authorisation or a licensed partner. source
ESMA keeps the interim registers of authorised providers and of e-money token white papers. BBVA, N26, LHV and Revolut's Cyprus entity hold their own authorisations. Monerium's EURe and SG-FORGE's EURCV are notified e-money tokens. source
Where a bank white-labels a partner, the partner holds the licence and the coins. N26 and Raiffeisen run on Bitpanda, bunq on Kraken. In those setups coins usually cannot leave the bank. source
Anti-money-laundering enforcement is where EU banks bite. BaFin fined N26 in 2021 and 2024 and Deutsche Bank in 2025, DNB fined bunq in 2025, and Estonia's regulator fined LHV in 2023. An inbound transfer from a stranger is the usual freeze trigger. source
Bank deposits are covered up to EUR 100,000 by national guarantee schemes. Crypto held through a bank or its partner sits outside every scheme, and the terms say so. source
