What Deutsche Bank allows and blocks

Allowed

  • Corporate banking for regulated crypto exchanges: Deutsche Bank is Bitpanda's bank in Germany, Austria and Spain (German IBANs and real-time payments since June 2024) and provides fiat deposit and withdrawal rails to Bullish's BaFin and Hong Kong SFC regulated businesses (October 2025)
  • Institutional crypto custody in development, built on Taurus (global partnership since September 2023) and Bitpanda Technology Solutions, with a launch reported for 2026
  • Ordinary retail current accounts (AktivKonto, BestKonto) with a Mastercard debit card, and a Mastercard Gold credit card on the BestKonto
  • Euro stablecoin exposure through DWS, the bank's asset manager, which co-owns AllUnity, issuer of the BaFin-licensed EURAU

Blocked or restricted

  • No retail crypto trading, custody or wallet in any Deutsche Bank or Postbank account
  • No published policy on retail transfers to or from crypto exchanges. One community report shows a Kraken withdrawal landing without problems, but that is a single case, not a stated stance
  • No staking or yield on crypto
  • No crypto card and no card that spends crypto
  • No stablecoin off-ramp for customers. EURAU is issued by AllUnity, not by the bank, and Deutsche Bank is not a member of the Qivalis euro stablecoin consortium

Questions about Deutsche Bank

Does Deutsche Bank let me send money to Kraken or Coinbase?

The bank has not published a policy on retail transfers to crypto exchanges. A community report from May 2024 shows a Kraken withdrawal reaching a Deutsche Bank account within a day with no hold. Deutsche Bank also runs the German payment rails for Bitpanda, so exchange traffic is not foreign to it. Larger sums can still trigger a source of funds request, as at any German bank.

Can I buy or hold Bitcoin in my Deutsche Bank account?

No. Deutsche Bank and Postbank offer no retail crypto trading or wallet. The crypto custody service reported for 2026 is aimed at institutional and corporate clients, and as of September 2026 no launch has been announced.

Does Deutsche Bank have a crypto custody licence from BaFin?

The bank applied for a digital asset custody licence in June 2023. Neither BaFin nor Deutsche Bank has published a grant, and the reports of a 2026 launch with Bitpanda and Taurus do not confirm approval. Some German crypto blogs say the licence arrived in late 2023, but they cite no source.

Will Deutsche Bank open a business account for a crypto company?

It has for regulated exchanges. Deutsche Bank is Bitpanda's bank in Germany, Austria and Spain, and since October 2025 provides fiat deposit and withdrawal rails for Bullish. Both are licensed firms. There is no published route for unlicensed or early-stage crypto businesses.
