Which banks in the UK offer custody?

Custody means the provider holds coins for you rather than just moving fiat around them. ClearBank is out because it offers no crypto custody at all; clients keep control of their own wallets. The full passes split by customer: Xapo Bank holds Bitcoin 1:1 through its GFSC-regulated VASP with MPC key sharding, Revolut holds crypto for individuals in the UK under its FCA cryptoasset registration, and Standard Chartered custodies Bitcoin and Ether for institutions through Zodia Custody and a DFSA licence, with nothing for retail. The partials each come with a limit: LHV holds the 15 assets you buy in-app but will not let them leave the bank, Wirex holds balances as an e-money institution with no deposit protection on either fiat or crypto, and BCB Group's crypto services are for business clients, with trading closed to most UK residents.

Questions people ask

Who actually holds my Bitcoin if I bank with Xapo from the UK?

Xapo VASP Limited, a GFSC-regulated DLT provider in Gibraltar, holds it 1:1 with MPC key sharding. Deposits and withdrawals work on-chain and over Lightning, with Lightning capped at USD 1,000 per invoice and USD 5,000 per 24 hours. Send only Bitcoin: any other digital currency sent to a Xapo Bitcoin address is lost.

Which UK bank custodies crypto but will not let me withdraw it to my own wallet?

LHV. You can buy, sell and hold 15 crypto assets inside the LHV app, but transferring them to an external wallet or exchange is blocked, and you cannot send crypto in either. To move value out you sell inside the bank and withdraw euros. Revolut and Xapo Bank both allow withdrawals to external wallets, with Revolut blocking addresses it links to unsupported exchanges.
