What DBS allows and blocks

Allowed

  • Crypto trading on DBS Digital Exchange (DDEx) inside the digibank app for accredited investors in the Treasures, Treasures Private Client and Private Bank segments, from USD 500 a trade
  • Eight tokens on DDEx: BTC, ETH, BCH, DOT, ADA, XRP, USDC and RLUSD, against SGD and USD, trading 23 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Selling USDC or RLUSD for USD on DDEx, so stablecoins bought there can be turned back into a bank balance
  • Bank-run cold storage custody of the crypto you buy on DDEx, plus DBS Digital Custody for institutions
  • OTC crypto options and Bitcoin or Ethereum structured notes for Private Bank and Treasures Private Client clients since Q4 2024
  • SGD and USD transfers from a DBS account to and from Crypto.com, which uses DBS client money accounts since December 2025; a third-party guide reports FAST and PayNow to other MAS-licensed exchanges are not blocked
  • Crypto ETF trading in the DBS Hong Kong digibank app for Treasures (HKD 1 million) and Private Banking (HKD 8 million) clients since November 2024
  • Banking for crypto firms on a case by case basis: Crypto.com's Singapore fiat rails and the reserves of Paxos's USDG stablecoin both sit at DBS

Blocked or restricted

  • No crypto trading for retail customers who are not accredited investors. DBS said in 2022 it would not open DDEx to retail, citing MAS's stance
  • No inward or outward transfers of cryptocurrency. You cannot send coins from DDEx to your own wallet, or deposit coins you already hold
  • US persons cannot trade on DDEx
  • DDEx trades settle in USD only. You need a USD balance in your DBS account before placing an order
  • Crypto bought on DDEx cannot be pledged as collateral
  • No staking or crypto yield product. MAS has barred DPT providers from offering staking or lending to retail since July 2023
  • No crypto card, and MAS bars locally issued credit cards from buying crypto at licensed exchanges from mid-2024

Regulatory history

2021DBS Vickers received MAS approval under the Payment Services Act to provide digital payment token services as a Major Payment Institution, the first bank-owned licensee in Singapore. DDEx itself had MAS in-principle recognition as a Recognised Market Operator from December 2020. source
2023After digital banking outages in March and May, MAS raised DBS's operational risk capital multiplier to 1.8 times risk-weighted assets, then in November imposed a six-month pause on non-essential IT changes and new business ventures. source
2024MAS let the six-month pause lapse on 30 April 2024 without extension. DBS said the pause allowed it to prioritise technology resilience. A further short digibank outage occurred on 19 March 2026 with no new MAS action reported. source

Questions about DBS

Can I buy Bitcoin through DBS?

Only if you are an accredited investor in the DBS Treasures, Treasures Private Client or Private Bank segments. You apply for crypto access in the digibank app and trade on DBS Digital Exchange from USD 500 a trade. Ordinary retail customers cannot buy crypto at DBS.

Does DBS let me send money to Coinbase or Crypto.com?

Crypto.com has used DBS client money accounts for SGD and USD deposits and withdrawals since December 2025, so transfers there run on DBS rails. DBS does not publish a general policy on transfers to exchanges. A third-party guide says FAST and PayNow payments to MAS-licensed exchanges are not blocked, though a first transfer to a new payee may trigger a verification step.

Can I withdraw crypto from DBS to my own wallet?

No. DBS states that it does not accept any inward or outward transfer of cryptocurrencies. Coins bought on DDEx stay in DBS custody until you sell them back to USD.

What does DBS charge for crypto trading?

DBS does not publish DDEx trading fees or spreads on its public pages. The fee details section of the Treasures crypto page is only shown to onboarded clients. Trades settle in USD, so SGD clients also pay the bank's FX conversion.
